Dr. Brou is Dancing For A Miracle!
I'm fundraising for Children's Hospital Foundation through their signature event, Dancing for a Miracle on August 20th, which is a spin off of Dancing with the Stars! Click on the "Donate Now" button to help me become the 2016 Dancing for a Miracle Star!
I came to Oklahoma in 1990 as an assistant professor of Plastic Surgery at OU at the age of 34. Our young family settled in Edmond, where my 4 kids grew up. During my tenure at the university, I did a lot of my work at the old Children’s Hospital. I was involved with the treatment of congenital malformations, craniofacial deformities, cleft lip and palate, trauma and even burns! I’ll never forget Nigel Scott, who burned over 60% of his body and survived, thanks to the use of lab-grown skin from MIT. First-time patient’s own epidermal cells could be grown in the lab for clinical applications! Amazing then! There were many other stories.
I’m now in my 21st year in private practice in OKC with great success owed mostly to the kindness of my patients and staff. My wife of 32 years, Ziggy, and I began taking ballroom dance lessons about 8 years ago at Macias Studios and developed a liking for it. Recently at 360 studios we became acquainted with many of the participants of Dancing for a Miracle particularly our friend Brandi Salazar. She inspired me to participate this year.
I’ve been very fortunate to be paired with the fabulous April Glunt, my professional dancing partner. Even though we’ve never danced together before, April and I have known each other for a while, I’ve followed her career and accomplishments through the dance world so I couldn’t be happier for the match. I’ve already learned a bunch so far practicing with her.
I do believe in karma and I also believe that things happen for a reason. This string of magical connections I just described is testament to the workings of goodness. How can we not help? I’ve never done a fundraiser before, but then I decided it must be time to get started! I love Tango, but I also fear it. So what better challenge than to conquer my fears? These are my motivations and my desire is to win. I’m going to recruit the help of everybody I know to see how big an impact we can make on this competition without forgetting that it’s all for the children.
